Slither Rhythm

Slither Rhythm is a rhythm game for the Playdate, obvs. Press the right button in time with the beat, but get your bearings right as you move around each edge. 

Slither Rhythm was started for the week-long RaeJam 2025. Let's do this!

A game from Scribe, based on an idea from Nooo Studio. Written entirely in Pulp. The game WILL be finished.

Pulp source code is included. Just download the file, unzip it, and look for data.json.zip - you should be able to unzip this and import it into a fresh Pulp project.

Instructions

You are the pulsing white dot in the bottom left. Press the up, down, left and right button on the D-pad in time with the beat, to match the next symbol ahead of you.

Directional symbols are fairly obvious, but remember they rotate according to which edge of the screen you're on.

A small dot means a blank - try not to touch anything for these, and you'll be automatically moved on.

Get your timing near enough and you'll build up a combo. Your score will increase by your combo amount with each successful hit.

If you get your timing exactly right, you'll get a Perfect beat - combo these for a special effect (once implemented, hoho).

Every 4 bars you'll hear and see an extra end-of-bar mid-beat. If there's a symbol ahead of you, press the right button in time with the half-beat to get a bonus move!

Get it wrong, and you'll get a Fail :( This will reset your combo.

Can you get a high score? Can you even technically get to the end yet? Who knows!

Umm, you may also need to close the game and restart it to start again.

To load

Download the file and then sideload it on to your Playdate via the usual means. Technically you can also play it via the Simulator, which is available for free with a play.date account, I think?
